Frequently Asked Questions
ALC vs. ML
Anyone at Eastman, and the University of Rochester, can register for an ALC course at the corresponding level. All ML courses, however, are for graduate students only.
Cost
All ALC courses are automatically free to those who enroll. For ML courses, graduate students will be charge per credit.
Credits
If enrolled in an ALC course for free, the course:
Will NOT count towards your degree requirements as electives, however, you will receive a grade
Will be counted as bringing the student to full-time status
MAY be counted to fulfill Certificate or Diploma program requirements
Co-Located
Currently, there are only three ALC courses that can be used to fulfill degree requirements as they are cross-listed with other departments (see above). To receive credit for these courses, graduate students MUST: register for the cross-listed version (i.e. MTL 421) and pay the tuition charges.
Auditing
The IML does not generally allow for auditing of course. Special requests should be directed to the IML Assistant Director.
Cancellation
In any given semester, courses are canceled for a variety of reasons, including instructor availability and low enrollment. Review of course enrollment will take place by the end of the prior semester. Any cancellation will take place no later than 3 weeks ahead of the day classes begin.
