RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership- Artistic Affairs
- Partners with Faculty and colleagues in Academic Affairs, Faculty Affairs, the Ensemble Library, and Concert Operations to ensure that concert programming across the School aligns with Eastman’s educational mission through logistical needs (space, number of players, etc.), artistic and pedagogical goals.
- Leads direction for advancing the School’s strategic priorities connected to artistic affairs. Will regularly assess current practices and set appropriate short- and long-term goals through collaboration with the appropriate offices and faculty to ensure alignment and advancement with the professional performance world.
Strategic Leadership – Revenue Generation
- Collaborates with Eastman School of Music leadership team to build and maintain external relationships with local, national, and international artists, organizations, and other partners, with a focus on creating revenue-generating opportunities. Responsible for identifying key professional artists for concerts, residencies, guest conductors, and working with faculty to design related experiences for students.
Artistic Planning and Operations
- Works closely with faculty in Conducting and Ensembles to plan, announce, and execute the academic year concert season for large student ensembles. Responsible for developing a comprehensive rehearsal and performance schedule, in conjunction with production, operations, and ensemble library teams.
- Works across departments to maximize the impact of invited guests, performers, and scholars during their time on campus, including faculty engagement, marketing and advancement needs.
- Collaborates with appropriate faculty across the School to oversee competitions, reading sessions, and symposia, through structure design, implementation and planning of related activities. Supports the planning and execution of run-out concerts, community events, tours, and other special events.
- Oversees the planning and execution of large-scale, cross-departmental, concerts, conferences, and events.
Department Management
- Controls departmental resources.
- Provides input to functional or departmental strategy.
- Works collaboratively with others to build processes for leveraging analytics and data to drive decision-making.
- Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact and effectiveness of initiatives, and to optimize and improve results. Gathers and analyzes data and metrics to develop regular reports and presentations. Makes presentations to university leadership.
Staff Management
- Leads, directs and manages the performance of direct reports. Provides direct supervision and coaching to ensure staff are working efficiently and collaboratively as a cohesive and effective team. Manages needs of the staff including, but not limited to: approving hiring decisions, providing ongoing supervision, addressing personnel issues and actions, and conducting performance reviews.
Financial Management / Oversight
- Provides input into capital and/or operational budgets consistent with the strategic objectives of the University. Assists School leadership in setting and managing the annual budget. Ensures budgets assigned are met. Acts as decision-maker for administrative budget/financial decisions.
