Syara Robert: Information Interviews of Leadership at Bowdoin

IML Grant Winner

I am seeking support to attend the Bowdoin International Music Festival as a violist and Arts Leader, with a focus on learning from its exemplary arts administration model and community-centered programming. Bowdoin’s organizational structure demonstrates a sustainable and forward-thinking approach to arts leadership, prioritizing meaningful community engagement and accessibility. Through its well-curated faculty and student concert series, the festival consistently attracts large and diverse audiences, reflecting the strength of its outreach, marketing, and programming strategies. As an Arts Leader participant, I will actively engage with the administrative framework by conducting at least eight informational interviews over the course of the summer: four with music faculty and four with arts administration professionals working in areas such as event planning, coordination, marketing, and outreach. Additionally, I will conduct a separate informational interview with a member of Bowdoin’s board to gain insight into high-level decision-making and organizational sustainability. These experiences will provide practical knowledge that I can apply to strengthen community engagement and expand the reach of future musical initiatives I lead.
