I will be presenting a poster titled “The Contours of Timbre in Rebecca Saunders’s Fury II” at the 2026 International Conference on Timbre. The conference will take place from July 2nd-4th at the University of Montreal, and will feature spoken presentations, posters, and performances. The two keynote presenters, Solvi Ystad and Zachary Wallmark, approach timbre from contrasting angles. Ystad will present on auditory modeling and frameworks to develop multimodal perception, whereas Wallmark will present on ideological orientations towards timbre and how that impacts meaning and value in popular music. I hope to connect with professor Caroline Traube from the University of Montreal, who specializes in music information retrieval for timbre analysis. My presentation for this conference extracts data like spectral centroid and spectral crest to explain brightness and noisiness in the music, so I hope to gain further insight into how to use this type of information more effectively.
