The International Beethoven Project (with Teacher Notes and Instructions)

Description
George Lepauw founded the International Beethoven Project in 2009, in connection with premiere performances of a “lost” piano trio by Ludwig van Beethoven. Riding the success of the rediscovered work, he established an annual Beethoven Festival in Chicago, which o ered not only outstanding classical music performances but also dance, poetry, film, and visual art in a casual atmosphere. Positive reviews from the rst two festivals paved the way for an ambitious undertaking for the 2013 Beethoven Festival. Despite the artistic success, overall income fell short as many donor pledges failed to materialize. A public outcry in defense of the unpaid musicians sullied the reputation of the festival. The case culminates in the wake of the negative press.
