The Short End of the Stick
Orchestra musicians are always curious about how a particular program or series gets put together. We realize that the Music Director consults with the Artistic Administrator and other staff members, and perhaps a Board Programming Committee, to finalize the season. But Music Directors often talk about a vision for tying a season together. Ann served on the Board of her orchestra for many years and got to listen to her MD explain his vision at a Board meeting, but most of her fellow musicians never get to hear his rationale for his programming decisions.
Can you explain how you put a season together for the benefit of all the orchestra musicians who don’t attend Board meetings?
