David Crowell is a New York City\u2013based composer and multi-instrumentalist (saxophones, guitar) whose work bridges contemporary classical music, improvisation, jazz, and experimental rock and pop. His creative process ranges from purely acoustic writing to electronics and sampled sound, with improvisation often playing an important role in generating material. The New York Times has described his music as \u201ccoiled and contained, but pulsing with small, ecstatic fibrillations,\u201d while The Guardian praised its \u201crare sense of kinetic energy.\u201d His music has been released on New Amsterdam, Better Company, Innova, National Sawdust Tracks, Coviello Classics, and Skirl.
\nCrowell\u2019s music has been performed at venues including the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, as well as internationally at the Lucerne Festival and the London Jazz Festival. His music has been commissioned by leading contemporary ensembles such as JACK Quartet, Sandbox Percussion, A Far Cry, and NOW Ensemble.
