What Music Careers Have in Common With Spring
April 25, 2018 In: Sound BitsPlanting seeds (and proper care) is critical. That may sound somewhat cheesy, but it is true! The music business is a people business, which means that musicians must develop relationships over time with a variety of individuals and organizations that will yield a harvest of opportunities. Every grant application we submit is a seed. They require care (high quality work, followup, etc.) and some seeds take longer to sprout than others. Every gig we play is a seed (and at the same time possibly a sprout of another previous seed?) You see, an opportunity might be the culmination of something that had been growing and brewing for some time, but that same opportunity can also be the beginning of something new – a new contact made, something new learned, a new idea ignited. Think about planting seeds in your career, and like with any seed, don’t expect immediate (or guaranteed) results. But consider the importance of planting those seeds, investing in yourself and your career, and putting your career in a position to blossom. What small career-seeds can you plant or nurture this week?
