The Gig Economy and What it Means for You

What these names refer to is a growing trend of workers who are pursuing career paths dictated by their own unique set of skills and services, as well as their preferred work schedule. In other words, they are building careers on their own terms. What does this mean for musicians? Well, musicians have pursued the path of freelancing for decades. But perhaps the difference now is twofold: First, technology has now made it incredibly easy to connect providers of services with consumers (think websites like Airbnb, Lyft, etc.) Second, there is a growing interest in creative abilities and creative problem solving. Therefore, musicians and creative types can leverage their creativity to provide all kinds of services to those who are seeking those services. What kinds of services can you offer, musically and otherwise? What are your strengths? Who are the consumers for those services and how can you connect with them?
