Spotlight on Innovation: NY Phil Off the Grid
February 7, 2017 In: Sound BitsThe NY Philharmonic has come up with a pretty neat idea: chamber music “parties” hosted in unique venues…with a catch. The NY Phil keeps the location of the concert/party a secret until just days before the concert. This adds to the intrigue of the “Off the Grid” events. Their website describes the events as “Exquisite music. Cocktails. Food. Friends. Hobnobbing with Philharmonic musicians. What more do you need?”
In a recent article in Symphony Magazine, the Off the Grid concerts are described as having been “packed with millenials” and having “a lot of interactivity between the audience and the musicians. It was a very cool vibe.” The NY Phil encourages audience members to use the hashtag #nypoffthegrid, and a quick perusal of the twitter feed for the hashtag shows pictures and videos of musicians and audience members seemingly having a great time talking about music, enjoying food and drinks, and experiencing some eclectic NYC spaces. Pretty interesting idea, right?
