Healing Arts New York
December 6, 2021 In: PRJC NewsAs arts organizations continue to grapple with the logistical and financial implications of the global pandemic, the mental and physical health of organizations’ artists, staff, audiences, and communities is also of paramount concern.
CultuRunners, an organization that “produces cross-cultural campaigns, exhibitions, films and live events – promoting peace-building and sustainable development through art,” recently launched Healing Arts New York, “A city-wide activation exploring the role of the arts as a new frontier and partner in health, care, and wellbeing.” The two month program was a collaboration between a number of notable partners, including the World Health Organization, NYU Steinardt, John Hopkins University, and the Aspen Institute. The program culminated with a day-long Healing Arts Symposium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which “positioned the arts as necessary to physical, mental, and social health across the lifespan.”
The collaborative nature of this initiative and the focus on the arts’ role in supporting mental and physical health provide a wonderful reflection point and inspiration for artists and arts organizations. Learn more and watch the entire symposium at:
