Developing an “Impact” Mindset

In this role, we constantly reflect on the meaning and relationship between innovation and impact. More specifically, what is the impact of the work that we—twenty-first century artists and ensembles—do on the world around us. In our opinion, impact can be viewed as the greatest gauge or measure of innovation.

This focus on impact reminded us of an article we read a few years ago by Kathy Caprino: 9 Core Behaviors Of People Who Positively Impact The World. Ms. Caprino is an author and success coach, whose work primarily focuses on the business world. However, her “9 Core Behaviors” provide a great point of reflection for artist-musicians, and ensembles:

• The invest time and energy not in what is, but what can be

• They view the journey as the goal
• They use their power and influence well
