Concert Music Needs New Invigorating Ideas

It seems everywhere you look, there is an orchestra or chamber music group performing in an unusual venue, perhaps at an unusual time, hoping to connect with audiences near and far.  Concerts are being live streamed on the internet, and performed in people’s living rooms. It is in many ways an exciting time for concert music, because some of the old, formal conventions are loosening, and we are seeing many experiments with venues, programming, collaborations, music pairings, and more.  Are they working? Well, some appear to be.  But surely not everything is working, and from where I sit, it still seems like some big, new, invigorating ideas are needed.  Perhaps you have an idea that will change the future of concert music?

In a way, there is a giant, blank canvas out there and the opportunity is ripe for some revolutionary ideas.  How can we create great art and present it in a way that is exciting and captivating for our communities?  How can we convince people to turn off the TV (for a little while!) and listen to live musicians instead? How do we make concert music fun, fresh, and relevant? How do we provide educational opportunities for people of all ages? 

What great idea is dreaming inside of you? The future of our music is ours to define.
