About this event:
Mezzo-soprano Kate Maroney (DMA ’10) will share her experience post-Eastman as a singer who navigates a busy and varied freelance career in NYC and around the world. Kate has developed a unique reputation in the field as a concert soloist, a Baroque and new music specialist, a small-ensemble collaborative artist, and a pedagogue who works with students at Mannes School of Music. She was a fellow at the Carmel Bach Festival and a member of the cast of the world tour of Phillip Glass’s EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH. Kate will be talking about finding and cultivating a unique voice in particular musical styles, finding colleagues for collaborative and entrepreneurial endeavors, and casting a wide net and honing all musical and personal skills so that you are prepared for all of the surprising opportunities that may present themselves. She will also discuss the nitty-gritty details of survival in a big city post-school and managing finances as a freelancer (taxes, healthcare) while continuing to develop technique, find time to practice, and networking.
This event is part of A Singer’s Guide to the Professional Journey taught by Kathryn Cowdrick.
