Stephen Biegner
Stephen Biegner is the Administrative Assistant in the Institute for Music Leadership. A recent Rochester transplant, Stephen previously was the Music Department Administrator at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City working under the direction of Kent Tritle. There, he was responsible for managing the professional 18-voice Cathedral Choir, overseeing the planning and implementation of the Great Music in a Great Space concert series, and working with other departments within the Cathedral to collaborate on small and large scale projects from art installations to the giant Saint Francis Day festival which features a choir of 300 singers, the Paul Winter Consort, dozens of dancers, puppets, and a parade of live animals. Before working at the Cathedral, Stephen was the Assistant Director of Admissions at the Manhattan School of Music. Stephen is also a light, lyric tenor and a total choral nerd. He has sung as a choral scholar for the Oratorio Society of New York, was the staff tenor at the Church of St. Catherine of Sienna in Manhattan, teaches and section leads at the Amherst Early Music Festival choral workshop, and was a frequent collaborator with the NYC project-based ensemble Ampersand where, among other concerts, he was the tenor soloist in the group’s performance of David Lang’s little match girl passion. Stephen has also been the tenor soloist for a number of performances including Handle’s Dixit Dominus, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, Bach’s Mass in B-Minor, Charpentier’s Le Reniement de Saint Pierre, and was recently Jephte in Carissimi's Historia di Jephte.
