Scott Kaplan

Scott received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from The University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He received his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University, where his research examined media portrayals of psychologists and their influence on people's attitudes towards and willingness to seek therapy. Scott completed his predoctoral internship at the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Counseling Center. He worked there as Staff Psychologist/Group Coordinator for one year before working at Roosevelt University with the same title from 2010-2013. In both roles, he was active in training and supervision, outreach and consultation, and psychotherapy. From 2013-2016, he ran a full-time private practice in his hometown of Chicago, IL. Now rooted in Rochester, he is delighted to be a part of the UCC staff. Scott’s concentration areas include group psychotherapy, program development, public speaking, and relationship issues. He also enjoys helping diverse students from all walks of life with family issues, identity issues, lifestyle changes, ADHD and other learning disabilities, impulse control issues, anxiety and depression, self-esteem/self-worth, and men’s issues. Additionally, he has extensive training in violence prevention and campus safety. Hobbies include seeing live music (esp. Phish,) traveling, nature and outdoor activities, writing, cooking, and anything related to real or fantasy sports. Add good company and deep belly laughs for maximum enjoyment.
