Mark Volpe

Mark Volpe is the former CEO and President of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. During his twenty-three-year career, he presided over the largest orchestral organization in the world. The BSO is comprised of the Boston Symphony Orchestra; the Boston Pops; the Tanglewood Music Festival; and the Tangewood Music Center, a summer school for pre-professional musicians. He is a professional musician, a lawyer, has a comprehensive knowledge of the orchestral literature, and has long-standing relationships with the leading conductors, soloists, and orchestral musicians of the day. Under his leadership, the BSO has recently engaged Andris Nelsons, one of the most sought-after conductors of the day. Mark Volpe was the first-ever orchestra CEO elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2017). He holds four honorary doctorates and will receive France’s Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters
