Dr. Blaire K.S. Koerner Career Advisor, Office of Careers and Professional Development Blaire Koerner is the Career Advisor for both Eastman School of Music’s Office of Careers and Professional Development and University of Rochester’s Gwen M. Greene Center. In this role, Dr. Koerner is part of a team focused on providing resources, skill-development, and guidance for students heading into numerous musical and cultural fields. She is available for both one-on-one meetings and group sessions to collaborate with students on discovering personal, professional, and artistic goals and opportunities. Having been most fortunate to discover incredible mentors through-out her life, Dr. Koerner hopes to offer the same type of life-long support to Eastman and University of Rochester students and alumni. In addition to her advising position, Dr. Koerner is an accomplished musician and bassoonist. As a freelancer, she has performed in a variety of large ensembles, operas, musicals, recitals, and studio recordings. Some ensembles she’s worked with include Ensemble Signal, Society for Chamber Music Rochester, Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Buffalo’s Slee Sinfonietta, and Syracuse’s orchestra Symphoria. She belongs to the Eastman Community Music School faculty wind quintet and plays in a variety of chamber settings focusing on outreach and community engagement. As an educator, Dr. Koerner’s roles include adjunct bassoon professor at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music and instructor and chamber coach at the Eastman Community Music School (ECSM), where she received the Jack L. Frank Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016. She also teaches the Careers class at ECMS’s Summer Classical Camp. Entrepreneurially, Dr. Koerner has pursued numerous focuses to assist current musicians in tackling issues in the field. She has published in the Eastman Case Studies, currently organizes the Eastman Leadership Conference for higher education administrators, and helped with the creation of the new M.A. in Music Leadership at Eastman School of Music. She also sits on the board for Pegasus Early Music, a Rochester-based non-profit organization. Dr. Koerner completed her DMA at the Eastman School of Music in Bassoon Performance, with a Collegiate Teaching minor. She also holds a Masters of Music degree in Bassoon Performance from Eastman, a M.Ed in Elementary Education and B.S. in Bassoon Performance both from Hofstra University.
